LifeLabs Genetics and our parent Company LifeLabs, are a Canadian owned and operated clinical diagnostic testing Laboratory. LifeLabs is proud to be the largest provider of community testing services in Canada providing over 120 Million test results to Canadians in 2017. LifeLabs Genetics laboratory is based in Ontario and is amongst a very small number of private labs to be certified under the Ontario Lab Licensing Act. Because we are certified under this very rigorous standard we have requirements that other labs do not.
Although Pharmacogenetic testing (PGX) is not yet paid for under the provincial Medicare funded testing we believe that the test provides great value to support you and your licensed Health Care Practitioner (HCP) in making better medication decisions. We also believe that your Dr/Physician is an important partner for you in determining how to integrate the information from the PGX test into you treatment plan taking all other factors (health status, medical history and other factors)into consideration.
For this reason we require a signed requisition from a HCP that is licensed under their provincial scope of practice to order a test. In some provinces a pharmacist has the ability to sign a requisition however this is not yet the case everywhere, In all provinces your family physician can sign the requisition as can any licensed physician (urgent care, walk in) and there are online physicians that can provide a consultation on a fee for service basis.
Information on an individual’s sex (male/female) is required and used as part of the quality control within the testing algorithm.
